The Play & Learning Team

The Play and Learning Team provides play activity sessions to encourage children to learn through play and encourage the development of their natural curiosity in their environment.

We also recognise that a child's first teacher is their parent and because of this, we plan our sessions to involve parent's and/or carer's in their child's learning and play experiences.

The Team

Cathy - Play and Learning Worker

Cathy co-ordinates the Play and Learning team members to provide play sessions and activities that enable us to meet the needs of children and families within the community. She works in partnership with five local schools and local agencies.

She aims to continue her close partnerships with the community to develop imaginative play spaces both inside and outside. She would also like to see a parent-led play and learn session at each primary school and to see lots of smiling faces on the faces of children and their parents/carers.

Leanne - Social Inclusion Worker

Leanne plans and facilitates play sessions for children aged 0-4 years. She runs the Tumble and Play sessions. She also provides a home visit service to promote play development and speech and language development within the home.

She aims to develop more play sessions and begin specialist work with additional needs children, providing help and support for the families.

Jo - Stay and Play Leader

Jo organises the Stay and Play sessions at Mountbatten and Wansbeck. She provides fun, exciting and stimulating sessions for both children and parents/carers, with a safe and caring environment. Jo is dedicated to developing more play sessions throughout the community

Luisa - Speech and Language Therapist

Luisa supports Sure Start team members and parents to encourage language development. She also provides training and supports local nurseries to encourage children's talking.

Luisa will be running language groups within nurseries to support language development in groups and everyday situations.

Louise - Childcare Co-ordinator

Louise co-ordinates the creche bookings and creche staff. She works with and supports childminders, schools and play groups to promote childcare and childcare facilities within the local area.

Louise is currently contributing towards the development of two day nurseries and would like to increase awareness of childcare and play within the the local community.
